$8,000 · 20-something-year-old Double Bass et al

Her name is Grace. A bass made in about 2001 by a Chinese luthier who trained in France. The quality was always excellent, but the fingerboard did warp and was repaired in 2011 by a quality luthier in Victoria, B.C. This instrument was appraised at 8,000 in 2007. It is being sold with a black $300 professional-quality case, two bass-bow cases and one French bow (in serious need of new hair) and a German bow made by Reid Hudson in 2012. The German bow, named Harmon after Gary Karr's piano-playing partner, has a dark patch in the wood of the stick (see photos). This mark has no negative impact on the quality of the bow or the sound it produces, and yet it was sold to me for $3000, when it would normally go for more than $4000. However, because of that flaw, Mr. Hudson did not make a signed frog for it. It is, nonetheless, his fine workmanship. The bass and bows also come with some other items including a small metronome and two mutes: one ebony and one practice. Other items of import will also be sold with the bass included in the above price. I can even throw in an archaic bass stand of moderately poor design. If you want it, it's yours; otherwise, it's scrap metal. If you need or would like to also have me include a 32-inch stool for the price, I have three different styles. We can work that out too.
